May is the calm before the storm that is the ski season here in Queenstown. So it’s the perfect time to visit Queenstown if you are looking to avoid the crowds. There is plenty of things to fill your time and the weather is still warm(ish) to be out and about. The last of the autumn colours are clinging to the trees and the first signs of winter are capping the mountains surrounding the basin with white peaks. Hopetoun Brown and Finn Scholes are coming to The Sherwood May 15 and with them a boot load of exotic instruments. Bass clarinets, tubas and trombones are swapped for trumpets, saxophones and an assortment of strange keyboard instruments throughout the two stomp-heavy sets. The set-list will be peppered with tunes from Hopetoun’s Browns latest album “Look so Good” which feature guests turns from Tami Neilson,Marlon Williams and their touring buddy Finn Scholes.If you are looking for a jazz journey that starts in New Orleans and ends at your back door, this could be your night! The Jennian Homes Mothers Day Fun Run,and Walk at Lakes Hayes near Queenstown on Sunday 13 May is one of several events across New Zealand supporting the Heart Found. Money raised from this event will go toward the treatment of heart disease in women. So why not hits the streets and run, walk or have a leisurely stroll with your mum, daughter, sister or a group of girlfriends this Mothers Day. It will be a wonderful way to start the day and you will be doing your bit to beat heart disease.
